Great men and women
accomplish great things
for their organizations, communities, countries
and sometimes even for the world.
And yet, those who have acted unethically,
done wrong,
made mistakes, sinned against God, or hurt their fellow
human beings at one time or another include:
all kings, presidents,
elected and appointed officials,
all merchants, traders, business people,
all doctors, nurses, teachers,
all priests, ministers, rabbis, imams,
all monks, brothers, nuns,
all warriors, all pacifists,
all saints, all of us.
It is very easy to be critical of shortcomings;
it is harder to forgive human failings.
But a strong majority
of great leaders who have accomplished
great things — considering their lives in total — have
been more
virtuous than vile, done more good than harm, brought more
joy
than sorrow.
Let us celebrate their best. |
